| She's away for a romantic getaway or else I'm sure she'd respond to this right away, but I did find this. It's from an older thread.

Whats not to love about the PS3? Its FREE internet, you get some FREE downloads on themes, extra's for games, trailers, demos and much more. With the 360 you have to pay for using Xbox live and you have to buy points to download extras, and films etc. But with the films its just like renting a DVD accept you dont have to get off you bum to walk to your local rental shop.
Graphics are better with a HD TV for the PS3 but they still look fine without one just not as smooth. Plus you've got the Blu-ray thing as well - which I dont bother using, just use a DVD not THAT much of a difference.
OK, you cannot get Gears of War 2 or Halo 3 for the PS3 but you can get many other games like Resistance 2 (cannot wait for that!), Sing Star, Buzz and Killzone 2.
Its totally down to you but I just LOVE my PS3
Plus I forgot to mention that you can play old PS1 and PS2 games plus you can download old PS2 games for cheap if you dont have the disc.

Personally I don't see why anyone would pay for half a system. If your PS2 is dying then eventually it'll be dead all together - you get your money's worth by investing in the full model that is backwards compatible so you can continue to enjoy your PS2/1 games (with a HUGE collection of at least PS2 titles to still explore) and you wont be limited to JUST the high dollar PS3 three games. It just feels like you'd be missing out on what all the PS3 truly has to offer; getting only half of potentially the ultimate gaming experience - not to mention that should you change your mind later on... "upgrading" or buying a used/refurbished PS2 would end up being more costly than buying it all together to begin with. Heh... was just thinking Vampira would do this thread justice. Vampi the gaming goddess. |

| o.k. I am a little confused now. I was planning on buying a PS3 for my son this coming month as a surprise present. When you mention "backwards compatible " what does that actually mean? All I am really interested in is 'if" my son can play his PS2 games on the PS3? | |

Can I just go back to what I said originally, I think on the 40GB PS3 you cant play old PS1 or PS2 games but on the 60GB ones you can.

| ^^ I hate to bring bad news, but I think that is the case. My husband has one of the backwards-compatible ones. I believe the first wave of ps3s released were backwards-compatible, and the ones produced afterward were not b/c it cost less to manufacture them that way. | |

| It's really stupid that all of them aren't backwards compatible. I was told by a guy behind the counter that PS2 game sells was double the sales of Nintendo and Xbox combined. |
