| The Big Business of Breast CancerI read this article last night in Marie Claire. Not only are many of the breast cancer organizations total shams, but even the "reputable" ones are swimming in more money than they know what to do with and are no closer to finding a cure. Money from the purchase of pink merchandise isn't even going to research or to victims of breast cancer. Though there have been some advances in diagnostic measures, the fact remains that the death rate of breast cancer in the US hasn't really changed in 20 years. Shocking stuff!

| I've heard that before. Especially the part about the profits of the cancer merchandise don't even go to the right people. Its truly sickening, how companies will pray on people's generosity and feelings.
Great article, more people should be aware.

| This is something that I was already well aware of--I think it comes down to our culture's obsession with boobs. They market it as if breast cancer was the leading cause of death for women (even though it does afflict men as well) but it is really heart disease that is the leading cause of death.
While I am thinking about it, even if you are in your 20s, you can develop breast cancer; so if you start oozing puss out of your nipples, go to the doctor.

| It's sadly very true, with the possible exception of MacMillan over here. I found this out first hand when my girl was diagnosed with breast cancer in her mid 30s. The hospital that treated her was superb but it's funded by local people with absolutely no government or charitable help whatsoever | |

Shocking stuff! I have seen this before. If you have netflix there are a ton of documentaries that talk about other diseases used for big business
