| I noticed while I was out last night a rather large post bomb went off, now there is no set posting limit per person per day but 200 post in just a few hours is a bit much. I did notice that most of these posts were in the "forum games" and out of those there were a good number of one word posts. I had also noticed a bit of off topic chatting going on, Although we have never minded a little OT posting what was going on last night could have been done in the chat, thats what it's there for...
if another post bomb goes off like that in the forum games I will have to lock the area for a day to off set the posts... Also if you want to chat, please don't hijack the threads, we have PM's and a chat for this.
Again, OT posting is ok just don't over do it and try to show a little restraint and not post like your on meth... Thank You

| While I may partially responsible for this... I find comfort in knowing the night before was about 5x worse and I wasn't as responsible for that... I iz diet coke of responsibility. |

| It doesn't matter who did or didn't cause the massive post explosion last evening. That has already been addressed with the people who got overenthusiastic about some of the threads and posted like they were on crystal meth or crack or some combination of both. What matters is that we have a clear idea about what would be considered spamming these forums now. | |

| I guess for games like "word game" and "yum or yuck" instead of posting after every reply it could be every two? Three? More? or something... least till the limits can be in place... Or maybe those single word games should be temporarily locked in the meantime? |

| To quote endless " now there is no set posting limit per person per day but 200 post in just a few hours is a bit much. " Which seems like a good number to me 200 in say 3 hours is way too much. | |

| So... pretty much self-monitor our posting speed and quantity now that we have a better idea? Cos there's been a few instances I wonder if it's better to wait for others to post... or if a set amount of time has passed and only one person has replied.... Like... I think in the "yum or yuck" game there was like a 10+ minute gap without any more than one reply (and I wasn't the last to post).
And what about the times when a member is the last to post? And an 30 min or longer passes? Is it acceptable to post on top of that or is it heavily preferred to use the edit feature? I suppose if it's a "game" the edit feature but if it's a topic with actual conversation then perhaps bumping it up with a substantial amount of material within the bumping post would be okay... maybe... |

| Ahh, this brings back memories of the flooding of threads Nsane, gutter and I did on GB. Oh, what times. *slaps knee* It is pretty crazy though when people post so fast. As ravengrim said, it's like the poster is on crack. I mean, if all you have to post is "lol," I think you should probably pass unless you can think of something relevant to say. | |

| ^True that. I always refrain from posting unless I actually have something to contribute to a topic, unless, of course, I'm playing one of the forum games. Even then, I'm starting to get kind of bored with them. | |

| The biggest problem was the Forum Games thread; fortunately since endless posted this I feel that it's improved slightly... though some of us are still at fault to our own humanity and slip up. What can I say? Some of them are just simply fun... especially from the psychological & philosophical side - I enjoy seeing what interests my fellow board members have, what choices they make when in those thread, and wondering "why". I pray though that the elimination of post count increase in these threads will be added to the board's system so endless can pick it up though... I feel that at least one or two still post dominantly for post count. There's days when I'd like to play the forum game but absolutely hate the fact only one person in particular will reply before anyone else gets the chance. He/She will post, I'll post, then immediate it's him/her... boring, annoying, and frustrating - give other people a chance to play. But, in all fairness to him/her, it may be that there's not enough members on at the times he/she and I are on. |

| I've said this all along and I think the post count thingie should be put down. Why promote people to post sh*t loads to be at the top of some stupid list?!? Who gives a monkies on who is a top poster, all Im bothered about is people enjoying the forums and meeting other like minded people. | |

I'm beginning to agree with you, Vampira, this is getting old.

| I find it amusing when the people who lose their spot "start to agree". Personally I haven't noticed any real post bombs in awhile though... I'm not on much/in the mornings. I suppose there's one or two still... and I suppose I'm guilty of it as well from time to time... but, in small amounts, who isn't guilty? |

| Well, it's getting old. I admit I'm guilty too, but I do have a life, and it's irritating going to school, work, and clubs and coming back to see I'm at the bottom of the list. *sigh* Maybe I'm just jealous that people have so much free time. | |

| I think if losing a spot on a top poster's list feels like a threat to an individual in some way or another, then it's time for some self reflection and re-examination of one's priorities. | |

| Double post due to lack of edit function in this thread:
Last time I checked nobody gave out prizes for having a million and one message board points. No prizes, no incentive, so don't see why people would want to make it a competitive sport.

| Almost a month between Vampira's last post and Morwenna's complaint about being dropped down for her lack of posting on the Top Posters list. Now we get to look at an ugly poll result that probably wont change for months due to lack of activity in that forum. Hope you're happy now, ruin it for the rest of us. - Seduction of Madness wrote:

I really really REALLY hate to say it, but she does have a point. If you're complaining because you're not on the Top Posters listen then post more and try not to just post in the forum games. If you're complaining because you lost your spot then... post more and try not to just post in the forum games. Ah well... it was fun having a goal to look forward to... But, in all honesty, I doubt it's going to change anything as far as activity goes. Besides, I have a screenshot of me on the Top 3 so I'm happy. |

| I'm still contemplating weather or not I want to remove the top posterlist. On the one hand we have people posting just to climb the poster list and/or get on the list which results in a lot of blurb posts... On the other hand I put that top poster list there because I want it there, I don't care about the order of it, it isn't going to give anyone anything special depending on your "spot" on the list, its only there for a space filler and for fun, nothing else, theres nothing special about the places on it, first spot and last spot are just as equal as not even having your name on it although I do know how it feels to finaly get your name on it so, will I remove it..? That depends on weather or not I find something I think looks equaly as good if not better in that spot

| A box with a rainbow would be awesome... something that adds colour to the forum. The poll thing just wouldn't hardly change and there's already plenty of grey/red. Umm... maybe alternate an image weekly? Some sort of mini puzzle like a crossword/word search?
For me, I like competition... I could care less if there's a "reward" or "not". God knows plenty of people here hate me or have a "distaste" for me so I'm fully aware I wont receive any social place above the rest nor do I deserve or want to be thought of as any better than anyone else just cos my colourfulness is on the top three list. To me, it just feels good that I've contributed that much to the forum. Sure, some of it was forum games... they're addictive as all heck especially when one has a huge gap of time to fill in (such as a job in which you don't do anything)... but it's kinda cool to see that thing changing... to see when I'm passed up and it fuels my own desire to do more to reclaim my silly little spot.
Can't speak about the others, I'm sure everyone has their own reasons for wanting to be there... and I think a lot of it is the simple human nature for competition and "winning" whether there's an actual competition or not. While others probably thing it's simply cool even to make it to the last spot. Perhaps extending the size of it like GBM towards the latter part? That way more are included on there and the "competition" or every-changingness of it would be more noticeable?
Hmm... idk... eye candy would be a great replacement... but for those who have avatars just the simple Statistics & Userbox offer a nice visual effect as well. |
