Well played, MJ.

It's been confirmed by CBS. Katie Couric just reported it. LA Times and Associated Press are reporting it as well.

Well played, MJ. Now Farrah I feel bad for. She went in a pretty painful way.I never knew people could get cancer where she did.I'll bet that was awful.
As for Michael,he was a fine performer...but he was bat-sh!t crazy. His legacy is not a good one outside of his music. Is it awful that I think more children are safe in the world now?

It's not awlful of you ravengrim.

Thriller is my favorite. I love that Vincent Price is on it. "In it" ... I don't know.

| Ive had "Beat It" in my head all day, lmao.
I do feel sad because he has died but after he started to go white he wasnt the same. I think death was the best thing for him, a shame that millions had bought tickets to see him. I bet alot of people in America are mourning over the loss.
So I guess as a tribute I'll play "Beat It" tonight on Guitar Hero while playing the drums and my boyfriend can play the guitar.
~~
Michael Jackson, one of the biggest and most successful pop stars of all time, ended his days deeply in debt.
At his peak, few people could match his earning ability, having produced the all-time best-selling album, Thriller.
But the singer who rewrote the rules of pop ran out of cash to fund his lavish lifestyle, and hoped a 50-date tour in London would rebuild his finances.
Prosecutors in his 2005 trial on child abuse charges, of which he was cleared, described him as a "spendaholic".
They said he had a "billionaire spending habit for only a millionaire's spending budget".

I guess the stress of the tours and stress of being in debt finally killed him off. Not only the stress but makes you think that some drugs had to be involved.

Well played, MJ. That's a pretty cruel statement. Celebrities aren't fair game just because they're in the public eye. They're just human, like the rest of us slack-jawed mouth-breathing schmos. Of course I'm against Michael Jackson having hurt children, and his bad choices will be part of his legacy. He had a seriously distorted sense of right and wrong, and I think that was thanks to his dad constantly pressing him to be perfect and to be in the public eye since age five. It's no excuse, but still, I'm kind of surprised he even made it to 50 under that kind of stress. But his impact on music, on video, on dance, and on life in general for anyone who can remember the 80s, was undeniable. I think there are people who hoped to see him somehow get a grip on reality before the end of his life -- something that would have done justice to the excellent work he produced.

| I agree, Micheal's legacy as perhaps the greatest performer in the history of entertainment, was terribly marred by allegations of child abuse and his self-mutilation. | |

| Sorry to say (well not really), but i'm not that sad he's gone. As Ravengrim said, I feel children around the world are safer now. Yes, he had a few good songs, but my like of him and the people who made him that way end there. |

| The first thing I heard of this was Mr Damnation leaving me a note next to my mug and teabag this morning (he goes to work at 4am but always gets my mug ready) saying "Michael Jackson is dead". Okay so the guy was an idiot in his personal life, he was poorly advised and he was too naive to exist as an adult in the industry and in the real World, I dont condone any of his "alleged" actions with children but again you have to ask why parents would allow their children to frolic with a man of that age if they werent trying to cash in on his millions? I can see his death becoming a weeping carnival in the same manner as the death of Diana "Princess of Wails" The ones who were most vocal in their hatred of him will turn around and lament his loss. He wasn't Johnny Cash and he wasn't Joe Strummer so I wont snuffle into my Jack Daniels What the Hell, I'm a sad old goth/punk but I do have to say that the Jackson 5 were superb and "Thriller" will always be one of my favourite albums | |

| I still don't see the fuss over big celebrities dying and everyone going into mourning and shock. Death is death. Just cause they're celebrities, it shouldn't be hyped up...no matter what they might have done. | |

| I say I'm not surprised. After watching a lot of interviews and reading articles, I never really believed he actually did anything to abuse children. Especially after that second lawsuit was thrown out because of complete and total inconsistencies in the testimony of the "victim." The fact that he settled out of court the first time doesn't automatically make him guilty. At the time, 20ish Million probably wasn't a lot to Jackson himself, and it saved him potentially years of accusatory court dates. He didn't care much for court, considering one time he couldn't be arsed to change out of his pajamas before showing up.
I think things happened due to a combination of having a non-standard childhood, and eventually pain medication and health problems, that caused him to not adapt and develop some "normal" social boundaries and points of view. While he certainly acted strange at times, I never saw anything to make me believe he actually molested a kid.
Think about it... child molesters know they're doing something wrong, so they do pretty much everything they can to hide it. Michael Jackson has practically never lived a day of his life outside the flash of camera wherever he's gone. To think that someone who would instantly be the focus of the media would build a huge attraction like Neverland Ranch to draw kids in so he could do awful things to them always seemed just a bit stupid to me. Unfortunately his money drew a huge target on his back.
Between his career and the ensuing media frenzy, he never had the opportunity to really enjoy his childhood or have any "real" friends. As years progressed and he got his money, and got furhter into his taste for painkillers, he saw his chance to enjoy the wonders of childhood that he was never able to, and he never really evolved from that. Probably didn't have enough time to before that target on his back was zero'd in on and the accusations flew.
He had both a great and yet very unfortunate life. It's always p!ssed me off to see a person who just wanted to have a little time to enjoy the simplicity of childhood be made a villan for it because people wanted money.
If this guy is really sorry, then he should return every last cent of that 22 million that he has to Jackson's kids.

| I wonder how much his Daddy's spent of it? I really wonder if by saying this now, that any of Michael's family will pursue it with legal actions.
