We're engaged.

Went away from the traditional "make yourself broke for the next 6 months by buying the biggest shiney rock you see" when it came to buying the ring, instead going for something more personally fitting. (Not to mention breaking the bank would be quite a setback when it came to the costs associated with her moving here, which are of highest priority) But, did the best I could with what I had, and more limiting, the time that I had.

The center stone is a blue topaz, her favorite, and by chance, and perhaps a little bit of luck, the cut happened to match a necklace that her father hand made for her. (He was some manner of gemcutter) I'd had some different advice from a couple people on what kind and shape to get, but in the end went with what I felt was the best choice, and it worked out great. It's white gold and there's 7 small diamonds on each side of the main stone.

Now some long-overdue pictures of us. There would be more... many many more were taken... however, we've discovered that neither of us can hold a camera steady to save our lives, so 96% of pictures we take are a blurry mess. And yes, I realize I'm an unshaven mess in most of these.

Congrats Madelchai. I share the same philosophy about engagement rings...dont break the bank over a rock!!

A real good quality diamond can cost over 30,000...thats stupid! and there is no visible difference from an excellent diamond from a good diamond too.
