Finally saw Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. It was on Netflix. Did a mini date night with the wife.
It wasn't as bad as I expected, but close.
Pros:
Tweedledum, Tweedledee, and the Queen of Hearts were pretty believably presented. Caterpillar was okay.
Music was deliciously reminiscent of American McGee's version.
Acting and production quality were excellent.
Cons:
White Queen was (in addition to being utterly unlike the White Queen) quite possibly the most annoying character I've seen in a movie in ten years.
Since when do Cheshire cats fly and disguise themselves as hatters?
I didn't think I'd find it as annoying as I did that everyone called the Jabberwock a "Jabberwocky" for some reason (see also Irwin Allen's 1985 disaster).
So anyway, it was kind of fun, but not worth the hype. That's about what I expected.
