| Has anyone tried "cloves"? At least, that's what I think they're called... I guess they're an alternative to cigarettes. Smelled yum but no clue how they taste/well they smoke. Haven't really looked around but in passing glance haven't found them at my typical shopping spots... may be worth checking into though.
I don't mind the smell of smoke either, perhaps for the most part I'm used to it. One of my exs smoked menthols and occasionally she'd take a breath off one then kiss me and breath part of it into my own mouth. Gotta say that was... a sensational experience I do miss. Though... I wouldn't mind trying it with peoplenip more preferably... |

| Yeah... cloves smell so yummy and the second hand smoke tastes as good as actual smoking it (or so I assume.) I don't typically or fully inhale anyways (unless it's peoplenip) so I've never put too much concern into "health" issues. However, I hear cloves "hurt" more than typical cigarette smoke? For the long term smoker, is it "healthier" to smoke cloves as far as chemicals go versus the "damaging" tendency of the smoke itself? or something? |

| I don't know exactly why but... Smoking peoplenip again. Smoking cigarettes again. Drinking a hell of a lot less though... So... I think I'm doing pretty well. Safer to smoke than to drink, yah? Also enjoy the taste and smell of Menthol cigs. Tried the new Camel No. 9 Menthols... just as smooth as the No. 9s. Think I prefer them over the newer Malboro flavours too. I also find myself wondering... is smoking REALLY calming my nerves and relieving stress... or is it a placebo effect? |

Lex... I do not like that you are smoking again. Especially peoplenip. I DO understand the calming effect though... when on the rare occasion I used to smoke, it would be very calming and relaxing. But I find just lighting incense has the same effect, and is WAY healthier. So that is what I do now... I suggest you also find a less destructive relaxing method. Try lighting incense and meditating... it always worked for me to just stop for a second and focus on my inner being, in a way that I wouldn't be paying for later down the road. |

Try lighting incense and meditating... it always worked for me to just stop for a second and focus on my inner being, in a way that I wouldn't be paying for later down the road. Peoplenip is less destructive. It relaxes my body and mind, calms me down mentally/emotionally/physically. It's the only anti-depressant that actually works with me, helps with my severe social anxiety, and (needless to say) helps me ACE my Philosophy classes. Peoplenip is healthier than both alcohol and smoking cigarettes... as well as healthier than one or the other. It's also been proven that smoking peoplenip does NOT cause cancer. Besides, God created peoplenip and man created alcohol/cigarettes - who are you going to choose? Unfortunately I haven't had any all week... so I'm smoking Camel No. 9 with Menthol (or without)... which has pretty much little to no beneficial effects. Actually, been chain smoking for the first time in years... partially out of boredom (power went out for two hours last night so was on my "porch" watching all the police circle through the neighborhood with their spotlights while smoking) and partially because I've been under a LOT of stress. I also believe that if peoplenip was fully legal everywhere, sold at stores with age restrictions much like cigarettes or alcohol (if you want to be strict about it; make it 21 age restrictions and only sell at liquor stores), the world would become a better place... albeit slightly (at least at first). Would also recommend strict punishments for DUI just as there are for alcohol. It's only "bad" if people use it irresponsibly and let it take full control over one's life.... just like alcoholics and everything else "too much of a good thing is a bad thing". Would I give it up ever? Honestly, I don't think I will fully give it up. While it's illegal I wont go out of the way to find it... the only reason I'm smoking lately is because my biological half-brother knows where to get it within 1 mile of his place. Otherwise it's too risky and shady to get it. However, I know that if I was in California or some other place where it was legal I'd legally qualify for a medical card due to my health conditions so that'd be the only other exception. Other than that... If it interferred with school in a negative way (lol Philosophy - the class for hippies... j/p), family, friends... or if a significant other whom I loved with all my heart and soul... sat me down and told me she had a problem with it, I would listen to her concerns fully and talk it over... see if a compromise could be made (smoke less, when she's not around... unless she preferred only when she's around so she can "supervise" and "moderate"/control... or something) or give it up completely if it was that important to her. But until it becomes a problem... Here's hoping I'm wise enough to never let it become a problem though and that those people who love me for me can understand it's a part of who I am. If they have a problem with it, they can talk to me in private (or set up an "intervention" lol) and, like I said, I'm willing to fully discuss it with them with an open mind and heart as long as they can do the same. |

| ^I realize all this. I know it is natural, less destructive.... I still hate it. I've seen drug use destroy TOO many people, and a few that I was once extremely chummy with... I hate it. And it may be harsh... but I would never be with someone who was a drug user. I am 100% drug free and clean; I've never tried anything besides cigarettes (and that was very short lived, and mostly a social thing, because one of my best girls smokes a pack a day)... and I will keep it that way. I am too much of a control, vanity, and health freak to ever try drugs. If others wish to pollute their body... that is their business. But I personally wish to associate myself with better influences. |

| thats what is all comes down to in the end. infulences, that and decision making. I know a few people close to me and then more not so close ones who have chosen to smoke and it has been .......... wel not the best choice to say the least so I have chosen to not make the same 'mistake' as them. |

Same here, though I have never smoked (I doubt I would handled it, though; I have a senstive throat) but I have drank some cups of alcohol (a lot of my family members drink, usually social drinkers) though I don't really understand why people do drugs/smoke tobacco/drink alcohol; but I guess (in my family expirience) is just a way to disconnect oneself with the reality, but I think that in these modern times pretty much a lot of people turn to a lot of things to loose themselves. I have my own methods to relax and work so far to me; play a bit on the Wii, lay down in a dark room with a pillow over my head and there is of course the most natural solution: a short visit to Miss Palm and his daughters, if you know what I mean (and it's free!) | |

| As an avid smoker and trying to quit:
I've smoked since I was 11 years old, not regularly until I was fifteen, when I stopped being asked for an ID card (I've always looked older than I am and carried myself better than most kids did). I've quit twice, once on purpose, once forced. The first time was after a move to a new home and trying to start things out anew with a better life, I had quit for two months; it was HARD. I couldn't ride in vehicles with people that smoked because it started to make me extremely sick very quickly. Finally I gave up when I went into a bar, and someone ordered some drink that came with a cigarette, and it was offered to me, and I took it.
The second time was in boot camp. You're not allowed to smoke the whole time you're going through basic training. They say after 3 days you don't need the nicotine anymore, and after a week you stop getting the urge. It's all lies. I would lay in my rack for hours after bed (taps) and think about smoking, and go through withdrawals. It was easier to quit illegal drugs than it was to quit smoking. Of course like an idiot the first day out of basic I went and bought my old brand and smoked three in a row.
Now I'm trying to quit again, four years later. It's hell. I've told everyone to take the cigarette away from me, if they can, when they see me smoking. So far only a few have, and it literally makes my eyes well up with tears when it happens. It's a hard habit to quit for someone who went from a regular 2, sometimes 3 packs a day, to almost nothing.
I've been offered dip, and I only realise that the problem with using things like that, is you become dependant of the item you fall back on to help you quit only starting a vicious cycle. The same with patches and the gum.
Now, I'm probably one of those rare cases where smoking hasn't 'obviously' affected my health, as I can run a mile and a half in under 9 minutes with no problem. But I'm sure it's killing my insides. This time I really want to quit but the oral fixation that comes with smoking is a real killer too. I find myself sitting on watch and chewing on EVERYTHING and for anyone with pets that chew on cables, pens, pencils etc know this can be annoying. Not to mention I'm worried about the fact that 2/3 of the people that quit smoking end up gaining weight because of the lack of chemical they're putting in and to put up with the oral fixation they eat a lot more than they normally would. So I've cut eating 2 meals a day, down to 1 meal a day, and 'navy portions' are not something you can live off of, let alone is it the healthiest of foods.
As for cloves, I've smoked tons of them, and they only end up giving me a headache after a while, they smell really good, they sometimes even taste good depending on the type and how old they are, but for the most part they're just harsh on the back of the tongue and sides for me. Although the flavor left on the lips taste great, even if you weren't the one smoking them. I leave it all up to personal choice. I can't stand smoking cigars and rarely can I stand, let alone want to smoke a clove, but I can smoke any cigarette day and night with no problem. |

| I smoke way to much for my own good. A carton usually lasts me for about a week. I can stretch it for a week and 3 days if I dont use my smoke breaks at work. But then I hate my life. So that's usually a no no. I try not to smoke infront of people who dont like it so im not all in their face and stuff. I smoke Malboro menthol 100's. I switch between brands every few months though. idk why. As for cloves, they are awesome. They leave a really nummy taste on your lips. But they take forever to smoke. Like 7 minutes. If you smoke them to fast you get a headache and your throat feels funny. Cherry Cigars are okay to. The little plastic part at the end tastes good. But they also take forever to smoke. And when I get done with one of those i'm all like, "wtf, that took forever. now i need a cig." But all in all I enjoy my smokey smokey time with some awesome rams horn coffee. | |
