| I got the following email from Gothic Beauty Magazine earlier today: Issue 31 Retraction Notice Gothic Beauty Magazine
Lorelei Burk's Anna Paquin interview published in Issue 31 is disputed as not authentic.
The interview was conducted by email via a listed "official" Anna Paquin MySpace page. The information available on this page, and the subsequent correspondence from this page, led Lorelei to believe, without a doubt, that she was in contact with Ms. Paquin.
We have been contacted by representatives of Ms. Paquin who deny that she participated in this interview and have informed us that Ms. Paquin does not have an "official" MySpace. The MySpace referenced in our article/interview has in fact been removed.
We apologize sincerely to Ms. Paquin as we believed what we had was indeed an authentic interview and we would never have published it otherwise. We also apologize to the readers of the magazine as it was never our intention to publish anything not authentic.
GB
Wow! How embarrassing for the magazine! But seriously, at what point did Ms. Burk think that interviewing anyone through their MySpace page was a good idea?

| I got the same email. I don't think anyone should do interviews through myspace, especially for a magazine article. Those things are better dont in person, phone, skype, or letter. They did get spanked hard by this though. | |

This is the problem with not having direct contact with the interviewee, or at least more direct contact, i.e. phone or personal email. It reinforces my belief that GB is very close to being a good publication, but falling short enough of the mark to wind up looking unprofessional. It's sad enough to look through it and see typos, incomplete sentences, paragraphs that wander, etc. I'd like to help (telecommuting copy editor or what have you); I just can't do it for free.

| I can't be too hard on GB (although as a "professional" magazine, they should have done a little more research) because I have been interviewed (print magazine, e- magazine and even for blogs) more than once, via MySpace, but...I also am not a huge star like Anna Paquin, and when you visit my page, it is most definitely me because there is so much of me, personally on my page.
But...as a magazine owner, I can chide them a little and say that all interviews should be conducted (with major stars) via e-mail.
I did an interview with Brad Greenquist (Victor Pascow from Pet Semetary) and it was done by e-mail and will appear in the October issue of Twisted Dreams.
I'd have never dreamed of asking him for his phone number (Skype or otherwise, though I have Skype) and was able to confirm that it was him I was interviewing and not some lackey working for him.
Maybe this will teach GB to be a little more prudent. Just because they are carried in stores, doesn't mean they can't be scammed.

I remember when that happened I thought I was banned or something. If it wasn't for angelofthenight I wouldn't of known about this one being open. Around that time I had lost my internet, so when I was able to come back on here everyone had a couple hundred posts already.

Good point, SPF. Maybe that should have told them something...unless of course they have much too high of an opinion of themselves and thought nothing of it. Me, personally, I'd never think my magazine (no matter how popular it gets - and it is becoming so, more and more) was that great, that someone like AP would give me the time of day.

I was a mod there and Endless was a gmod (global mod) and we received absolutely no warning what-so-ever. The only warning we got was when a member posed the question to the other members of what we would do if GB were to close the forum; we kind of laughed at the question (not mocking) and speculated what we would do, but then Madelchai told everyone about a rumor that was going around on another forum that said GB was closing. Shortly afterwords, GB made an official announcement. Endless was quick to set this forum up, so most of us moved here almost instantly.

They'd rather keep interviewing the same effing people (Faith and the Muse, anyone??) and finding artists who all paint the same big-headed girl in a weird setting with a cute little bloody animal. For purportedly being "alternative" lifestyle, they hardly do any alternating of their content.

For purportedly being "alternative" lifestyle, they hardly do any alternating of their content. See, GhostRed, what you've just said is exactly what I don't want people saying about my magazine. So while, yes, I interview pure unknowns (or little-knowns and I get lucky every once in a while, like with Brad Greenquist) at least I give true up-and-comers (and have seen quite a few careers blossom after being my magazine I'm extremely proud to say!) the chance they deserve. If this means that my magazine is never carried in stores...so be it. At least I'm not a sell-out or anything else, choosing to keep my magazine purely underground, fresh and yes...alternative.

| This all is 10 times funnier because the famous person in question, I have no idea who she is and it sounds like all of you are talking about her like she is a goddess. See, I told all of you I'm really out of the loop. I don't even know where to begin. | |

| ^^ She stars in True Blood hon. No, she's not a goddess, she's just a normal woman but I think that she's become famous because of the whole vampire thing that's going around at the moment.
This c*ck up is still making me giggle though!! I knew they were thick when they shut the forums down and didnt give anybody a chance to take them over but this takes the proverbial biscuit!

| GothScrybe, we shall enjoy your magazine for as long as you're here & it's being published As for Gothic Beauty, I still buy it & use it for a good eye-candy fix, but they have gone far south since I first started reading it. As for this blatant mistake, I agree that they should have not relied on a networking site to give them accurate information or a true-bloody interview.... | |
