Grandma is being moved to a new nursing home -- the one we were hoping she'd be able to get into! It's a huge relief, but I'm not sure how the payments will be covered yet. Waiting for more news from my mom's cousin.

Ah. I've heard of that one too I can't help you much with living in Omaha. I barely know Lincoln. Maybe contact the school. They'll sometimes have info on where cheap-ish living is and there is sometimes bulletin boards that have postings looking for room mates.

Yup. I live in Lincoln. WrappedinReflection lives in Council Bluffs. (I've never met her though ) The only places I know in Omaha are the airport, the Qwest Center, and the Old Market area.

I just had a "duh" moment.

I listed in the favorite things thread a list of silly dreams (after the bookstore discussion popped up) and realized that, yes I want to be a surface designer, hells yes I love sketching clothing, yes I'm fine with sewing, yes I'm a decent enough moldmaker and wax worker to make my own buttons and such... but I kind of gave up on my dream of being a fashion designer after I took a pattern drafting class and absolutely hated that aspect of fashion design.

But I just realized, I don't need to know how to draft patterns in order to make my own designs come into fruition. A lot of people make a living doing drafting for other people. And while I used to be a purist when it came to what constituted art or design work being "mine" (aka, that my hand had to be on it from start to finish) after spending the past three years in art school I've come to realize that many MANY artists have other people help them with their work... Kiki Smith, Christo, the small local artists my friends have interned with... hell, even the old Dutch masters and renaissance painters did this! Though I still feel awkward about passing some of my work off to someone else to do, I'm kind of coming to terms with it.

After looking up what the "standard" industry prices for pattern drafters were, it seems that even as a student I could easily hire someone to help me with some work for next semester. I am by no means rich, but the cost of having, say, a dress pattern drafted and mocked up is about what I wold normally spend on art supplies over a period of two or three weeks.

I'm happy because I'm having a four hour psychobilly session on Biker fm and I've just been made part of their wrecking crew! Believe me, this is a biggie for me!

I found out my wednesday morning class is being canceled for two reasons. One because something came up with my professor that she has to take care of and so we can do a homework assignment and use the hour we have for class time to do research. The thing that makes me happy is I get to sleep in. The bad part is, I have another homework assignment I have to throw on my pile of stuff to do and this one involves me actually having to go to the library and interview people. I'm going to do the most I can online, but I highly doubt I will find the person one of our buildings is named after and all of their information.

Nom, sugar infusion. I feel a ton better now.

That's great, SPF! My boyfriend works at Creighton & will soon be going to school there. He loves it The area is pretty decent as well.

Endless- I had to call my boyfriend into the room just to see the riot of awesomeness that is Goth Panda.

I made a guy blush. That is always a plus for me.

Worked with autistic kids today. That's quickly becoming my favorite kind of sub teaching assignment.

And DD- a friend of mine did patterns and sewing for a small local clothes business as an unpaid internship. Look into the paperwork for that. It looks good on his/her resume and you get free labor and someone who will learn to be awesome by absorbing your awesomeness!

I'm in New Orleans. Woot!

I taught seventh grade on the bad side of town today. If I had a drink for every chair that got thrown today... well, I'd have a good buzz going.
